The Government of India has launched a new central sector scheme "PM-Vidyalaxmi" to provide collateral-free and guarantor-free education loans to students admitted to top-quality higher education institutions, with a 3% interest subvention for loan upto Rs 10 lakhs with annual family income up to 18 lakh.
Another central sector scheme "PM-USP CSIS" provides full interest subsidy during the moratorium period on education loans upto 10 lakhs for students with annual family income up to pi 4 - 5 lakh, pursuing professional or technical courses in India from specific institutions. Additionally, under the Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Education Loans (CGFSEL), the Government provides up to 75% guarantee cover on education loans up to 17.5 lakh, without the need for collateral or third-party guarantee. The Department of English, GTRC observed the World English Day on April 30, 2026 as the actual day, i.e. April 23 fell during the 2nd Internal Test. A Special Lecture was delivered by Dr Lalrinmawii Tochhawng, Head of Department, and toppers from each Semester were felicitated. As is the practice, the second session was celebrated as Department Day and Farewell to outgoing students. The IV semester students ably conducted the session where special items were presented, a Farewell Cake was cut and gifts to and from the Department were handed out.

The Finishing School Programme on the topic “Tour Guide and Tour Agent” was successfully conducted at Govt. T. Romana College on 29th April 2026 for the outgoing VI Semester Students. The programme was organized by the Student Support and Progression Cell under the Finishing School initiative, with
the aim of empowering students through career awareness and skill development.
The resource person for the session was Ms. C. Ramsangzuali, Tourist Officer, Department of Tourism. The resource person delivered an insightful and engaging lecture on the scope and opportunities in the tourism sector. She explained the roles and responsibilities of tour guides and tour agents, highlighting the importance of communication skills, cultural knowledge, professionalism, and customer service in this field.
Overall, the programme was informative and beneficial, aligning well with the objectives of the Finishing School Programme to build excellence and promote career readiness among students.
Govt T. Romana College opens admission to 1st Semester for the year 2026 from 29 April, 2026. Admission is offered to applicants on 'First Come First Serve' basis depending on the availability of seats. On April 27, 2026 Govt. T. Romana College organised “Workshop on Promoting Co-curricular Activities: Thanksgiving and Felicitation of Romanians 2025-2026”, felicitating the students that had achieved outstanding awards in their respective fields at the national, state and regional level in co-curricular activities during 2025-2026. The programme had been graced by Pu H. Lalhmingthanga, Director, Sports & Youth Services, as a Chief Guest and Resource Person. The chief guest congratulates the students for their outstanding performances and encourages them to continue in their engagement in co-curricular activities alongside their classroom. The event was chaired by Dr. Lalchhuanmawia, NSS P.O. and, Dr. Jenifer Lalbiakdiki, Principal delivered a welcome speech and highlighted the various activities the college has been pursuing side by side with the class room teaching to enhance physical learning and knowledge.Mr. Vanlalruatfela 1st medal winner under IBBF from Mizoram also delivered a speech as a resource person and spoke on "Importance of Discipline and Perseverance ". Mr. R. Lalremliana, Vice Principal concluded the workshop with a vote of thanks.

An Intra-College Debate Competition on the topic “Harassment Against Women is Women’s Responsibility” was successfully organized on 2nd April 2026 (Thursday) at 11:00 AM in RUSA Hall. The programme was conducted under the collaboration of SHEW, Women & Child Development Department, Government of Mizoram, IQAC, and the Department of Sociology, Govt. T. Romana College.
The event was chaired by C. Laldinsanga, Associate Professor. The programme began with a warm welcome speech delivered by Dr. Jenifer Lalbiakdiki, Principal of the college. This was followed by
the inaugural address by Mrs. Zoramthangi Chhangte, Director, Women & Child Development Department, who highlighted the importance of awareness and collective responsibility in addressing issues related to women’s safety.
A total of 10 participants from the 6th semester actively took part in the debate, presenting insightful and thought-provoking arguments both for and against the motion. The competition reflected the students’ critical thinking, awareness, and public speaking skills.
After careful evaluation, the winners were announced:
• Best Debator: Lallawmkima (Department of English, 6th Semester), awarded a cash prize of Rs. 5000
• 2nd Position: Jacob Hmingduhawma (Department of Political Science, 6th Semester), awarded Rs. 3000
• 3rd Position: Jenny Lalremthiami (Department of Sociology), awarded Rs. 2000
All participants were given consolation prizes in appreciation of their efforts and participation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Dorothy Zonunsangi, Co-ordinator of IQAC, who expressed gratitude to all organizers, participants, and guests for making the event a success.
Overall, the debate competition was informative, engaging, and successful in promoting awareness and dialogue on an important social issue.


The Sports and Youth Services Department of Mizoram selected Govt.T.Romana college to represent the state in different competitions at the North East Youth Festival 17 - 26 March, 2026 at Nagaland. The college won the 2nd prize in Folk Dance and Beat Contest competition. In finger style guitar solo competition Sangliana of the 4th Semester bagged the 3rd prize and consolation prize was given to the participants in the Folk Song Category. The Adventure Club of the college also participated in the non - competition item of the event. The college is grateful to the Sports and Youth Services Department of Mizoram for the wonderful opportunity given to 42 students of the college
On 16 March 2026, a National-Level Seminar on Plastic Waste Management in Aizawl City was held at the Govt. T. Romana College Conference Hall under the chairmanship of R. Lalremliana, Vice Principal. The seminar aimed to raise awareness about the growing challenges of plastic waste and to encourage responsible environmental practices among students.
The resource person, Mr. Romalsawma (Roma Hmar), an environmentalist, delivered an insightful presentation on the issues of plastic waste management and highlighted practical approaches to reducing plastic pollution. Following the presentation, an interactive session was conducted where students actively engaged with the resource person. A total of 104 students attended the seminar and benefited from the discussion. The program concluded with a photo session, marking the successful completion of the event.
The program was organized by Eco-Club, Govt. T.Romana College and IQAC under PM-USHA Scheme.

The college recently celebrated a cultural extravaganza on March 12, 2026, celebrating Chapchar Kut at the campus, with the aim of promoting unity and integrity through cultural promotion. The event saw participation from local NGOs, including the Republic vengthlang Local Council, MHIP, YMA, and MUP.
The celebration kicked off with the principal Dr.Jenifer Lalbiakdiki's welcome address where she spoke on the theme ZO ZEMAWI: INREMNA and stressed that peace should begin from each household, community and then effect humanity on the whole. This was followed by the keynote address by Chairman of the Local Council. The event also featured an invoking prayer by Prof.Malsawmliana. The students showcased their talents through cultural dances and enactments depicting different eras in history.
The awareness program was held under the PM Usha scheme and sponsorship from various organizations including Active Sound sponsored the singing competition. Overall, it was a vibrant celebration of culture and unity.
