Govt. T. Romana College is committed to facilitate successful learning and provide quality education to each student giving special care to accommodate academically and economically disadvantaged students. The college while giving importance to the academically and economically disadvantaged giving freeships and remedial assistance to the needy. The college gives priority to the empowerment of girl students through various activities and programmes. The college also gives importance to the promotion of National Unity and promotion of Culture. The college also makes it its mission to spread the awareness of protection of environment and takes up initiatives towards the same.
Women Empowerment
The college through its IQAC, Women’s Empowerment Cell takes up various initiatives for the promotion of Women/Girl Empowerment. The college conducts Gender Sensitization and Women Empowerment Campaign programmes every semester of the academic calendar. The College has a Grievances Redressal Committee which deliberates upon any case of gender inequality/harassment issues occurring in the college. The Women Empowerment Cell had also set up a drop box where any complaints in relation to sexual harassment can be reported. The college through these initiatives contributes to the empowerment of women in the society at large.
National Unity and Integration/ Promotion of Culture
The College had taken up various initiatives for the promotion of National Unity and Integration by promoting Culture and generating respect for the culture of fellow-Indians by the organizing of various programmes for National Integration. A National Integration and Medical Camp programme was organised in March 2017to commemorate the College’s Silver Jubilee in collaboration with the Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC) Mumbai. As a part of the national integration initiative, student’s exchange programme was conducted in which students from NITTE University, Mangalore and ML Dahanukar College, Mumbai visited the college in March 2017.
The College’s Thingsiri Cultural Club is a registered club under the State Government’s Art and CultureDepartment. It had participated in various National Level and State Level Competitions for which it had won several prizes. The College organized the North East Natya Sangam in collaboration with Sangeet Natak Akademi, Delhi from 25-28 February, 2019. The college aims to inculcate in its students a sense pride in ones culture and national unity and integration.
Protection of Environment
The College aims to inculcate in the students a sense of reverence for the protection of the environment which is one of the most important needs of the hour nationally and globally. The college campus had been declared as a Plastic Free Campus in collaboration with the Aizawl Municipal Corporation. Under this initiative several items are banned in the college campus viz, single use plastics. The college carries out segregation of waste in which bio-degradable and non-biodegrable wastes are separated through the use of separate bins which are placed in the college campus. A special room for the storage of e-waste is also made available in the college. The college harnesses solar energy for fewer consumption of electricity and fuel generated generators. The College has installed a Solar Panel to generate solar energy for consumption in the college. The College has been awarded ‘A’ grade in the green audit conducted by the Pollution Control Board of the state of Mizoram.
The College’s NSS Unit had been assigned a plantation site at the outskirts of the capital city of Aizawl for the plantation of trees. The NSS Unit of the college had taken up this initiative keenly in which many trees had been planted and taken care of from time to time.
The college was the first college in the State of Mizoram to work with the State Government in the ‘Save Chite Lui’ Project, which is an initiative to save the river Chite which flows at through the capital city of Aizawl.
Decentralised Mechanism for Financial, Administrative and Academic Power
The institution is affiliated to the Mizoram University and so it abides by the terms of the Mizoram University. The college is also governed by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Mizoram, therefore has only partial autonomy over the administration of the college.
Administrative Transparency:
Admission to the institution is done as per the regulations formed by the admission committee. No discrimination is made on any grounds. The college reserves seats for different categories as prescribed by the state Government. But, as the majority of the population of the State are Tribals, most of it is occupied by candidate belongs to schedule tribes. Since 2020, the College has adopted online admission for which online admission portal was created and was integrated with the College website viz., admission.trcollege.edu.in. Payment of admission fees are also available through SBI Collect.
Staff Meeting (Teaching and non- Teaching) is the highest of all committees and is summoned by the principal at a convenient time or as necessary, in which all administrative and academic decisions are made and information is given to every member.
The IQAC of the college is responsible for most of the Quality enhancement activities and with the Committee of the Head of Departments and the Principal, they work in close coordination with to form all Quality enhancement related cells including Students’ Union representatives.

Academic Transparency:
Academic Committee is constituted consisting of the Principal, all Heads of Departments and other selected members appointed by the staff meeting. This Committee monitors every academic activity of the institution and formulates academic calendar. It is constituted by the staff meeting under the chairmanship of the Principal.
Students-mentoring is also being practiced by each department. Student’s academic performance assessment system is accessible to students in notice boards, whatsapp and the university website https://mzuegov.in/onlineresult/ Student’s assessment of teachers is done by the final year students and analyzed for follow up action for improvement. In order to ensure transparency is being maintained by the HEI in the process of continuous internal assessment, all departments organizes Parents-Teacher meet once in every odd semester session. Parents are well-informed about the courses offered by the HEI, about the academic system adopted by the affiliating university, and about the performance of their wards.
Financial Transparency:
The institution maintains timely and accurate financial transaction with the parent department and Mizoram University with integrity in accordance with financial rules adopted by the Government. All important financial accounts maintained are certified by the CA. As insisted by the Government, the Institution faces Financial Audit every 5 Years. Internal audit had been conducted to ascertain whether financial rules is properly followed or not in the management of finances.
