Seminar on Urban Administration

The Department of Public Administration successfully organized Two Day National Seminar on ‘Urban Administration and People’s Participation in North East India’ in pa seminarcollaboration with Indian Institute of Public Administration(IIPA), Mizoram Regional Branch at I&PR Auditorium, Aizawl during May 30-31,2012. The Seminar was funded by University Grants Commission(UGC), New Delhi.
Mrs Esther Lalruatkimi, IRS, Secretary to the Government of Mizoram, H&TE deliver her inaugural address as a Chief Guest at the Inaugural Function. Prof. Srinibas Pathi, Department of Public Administration, Mizoram University & Honorary Secretary, IIPA, Mizoram Regional Branch delivered his Key Note Address. The following papers were read and discussed during the seminar –

Seminar on Mizo Literature in Mizoram:
One day College Level Seminar on Mizo Literature is organized at the College campus on December 7, 2011. The Seminar was jointly organised Mizoram College Teachers Association (MCTA) Branch and Internal Quality Assessment Cell(IQAC), Govt. T. Romana College. The following papers were discussed in the seminar :
a) ‘Mizo tawng chungchang leh a tih hausak dan’ by Mrs Lalremmawii, Assistant Professor, Department of Mizo
b) ‘ A Study of Beliefs in Supernatural Beings in Pre-Colonial Mizo Society’ by Ms H. Lalbiakzuali, Assistant Professor & HOD, Department of Mizo

NSS Unit, Govt T. Romana College:
1. The Unit organized Special Camping at South Sabual Village, Mamit District during December 13-17, 2011, constructing Public Waiting Shed. About 18 Students and twonss shed Programme Officers i.e. Dr Malsawmliana and Mr Lalnunzira participated in the programme. Meanwhile, the Unit also organized ‘Awareness campaign on HIV/AIDS’ in the same village in collaboration with South Sabual Branch YMA. Mr Lalnunzira, Programme Officer delivered lecture on HIV/AIDS and the Volunteers distributed pamphlets, calendars on HIV/HIV to the villagers.
2. The Unit also organized Special Camping at Kanan, Aizawl during December 19-23, 2011 and constructed Public Water Shed. Career Awareness Campaign.

MCTA Branch Election cum Seminar

Mizoram College Teachers Association (MCTA) Branch of Govt. T. Romana College organized Branch election mcta_brcum Seminar on September 16, 2011 at Mosia Picnic Spot, Sihhmui. The Election was conducted by Mr S. Lalnunpuia, College Librarian as Returning Officer and assisted by two Polling Officers- Mr Zothantluanga, UDC and Mr C. Lalremruata, Library Attendant. The elected Office Bearers of MCTA Branch for the year 2011-2013 are :

President : Mr CVL Tlanhlua, Department of Public Administration

Vice President : Mr H. Lalnunmawia, Department of Economics

Secretary : Dr Malsawmliana, Department of History

Assistant Secretary : Dr Benjamin Ralte, Department of History

Treasurer : Mrs. Rosy Lalrinsangi, Department of Education

Finance Secretary : Mr Lalchhuanmawia, Department of Economics

In the afternoon session, Dr Malsawmliana, Assistant Professor, Department of History presented a paper entitled 'Annual Self-Assessment for the Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS) with reference to Academic Performance Indicators (API)". The seminar on 'PBAS and API' was chaired by Mr CVL Tlanhlua, Branch President.

 

NSS Activities

The NSS Unit of Govt. T. Romana College has recently organized the following programmes under Regular Blood-motivation-campiagnActivities :
‘Motivation Campaign on Voluntary Blood Donation’ was organized on 21.6.2011 at the College Hall and was chaired by Mr Lalhmachhuana, Programme Officer. Dr Lily Chhakchhuak, Medical Officer, Blood Bank, Aizawl Civil Hospital delivered a lecture. She was accompanied by Mrs. Lalmuanpuii, Consultant (Blood Donation), MSACS, Aizawl.

The Unit observed Green Mizoram Day on June 21, 2011 by visiting plantation site at Sihmui. The Programme Officers accompanied by 26 Volunteers has planted trees along the road in addition to the existing trees planted by the Unit.

Voluntary Blood Donation programme was also organized by the Unit at the College Hall on 24.6.2011(Friday) for Aizawl Civil Hospital Blood Bank. In this programme, 71 Volunteers have donated blood out of which 56 green-mizoramare men while 15 are women.
The Unit organised Awareness campaign on the occasion of ‘International Day Against Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ on 27.6.2011at the College Hall. The awareness speech was delivered by Mr Jimmy Lal¬tlanmawia, CHAN Programme Coordinator as a Resource Person. The programme was chaired by Mr Lalchhuanmawia, Programme Officer and attended by students from IIBA and III BA.

Ms Vanlalchami, Programme Officer attended ‘Capacity Building Training Programme on Youth Leadership and Personality Development’ organized by RGNYD in collaboration with NSS Regional Centre, Guwahati and NSS Cell, Tezpur University during 14-16th June, 2011 at Tezpur University, Assam.

Seminar on Politics of Regionalism

The Department of Political Science, Govt. T. Romana College, Aizawl has organized National Seminar on seminar_polsc‘Politics of Regionalism in North East India’ in collaboration with Mizoram Political Science Association(MPSA) at Aizawl during June 16-17, 2011. The Seminar was funded by University Grants Commission (UGC).

Shri Lalsawta, Hon’ble Minister, Higher & Technical Education, Mizoram graced the inaugural function as Chief Guest. Dr F. Lalhmingsanga, Principal, Govt. T. Romana College delivered a welcome note while Mr Lalsangzela Pachuau, Coordinator and Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science gave a reports at the inaugural session.

Prominent Citizen, Teachers, Scholars and academicians from different parts of the state as well as students of political science attended the seminar. The following were the papers presented in the seminar:

Kaphleia Memorial Lecture

The Department of Mizo, Govt. T. Romana College, in collaboration with Kaphleia Memorial Committee memorial_seminarorganized ‘Kaphleia Memorial Lecture cum Seminar’ on the occasion of the Birth Centenary of Kaphleia (1910-2010), the ‘Father of Mizo Essay’ at the College Seminar Hall on September 24, 2010(Friday). The programme was chaired by Ms H.Lalbiakzuali, HOD, Department of Mizo, Govt. T. Romana College. Dr F. Lalhmingsanga, Principal of the College gave a short welcome speech while Mr Malsawmliana, Secretary, Kaphleia Memorial Committee also gave a brief report of the activities of the Committee.

The first lecture entitled ‘Kaphleia hla te zir chianna (An analytical study of the songs of Kaphleia)’ was delivered by Mr Paul Lalremruata, Assistant Professor, Department of Mizo, Pachhunga University College while the second lecture entitled ‘Kaphleia leh a thuziakte (Kaphleia and his prose works)’ was delivered by Mr Lalrammawia Ngente, Assistant Professor, Department of Mizo, Govt. Johnson College, Aizawl.

The Seminar was attended by teachers and students of Mizo literatures from Govt. T. Romana College and Pachhunga University College, and some of the noted journalists and members of the Kaphleia Memorial Committee as well.

The programme was concluded with the vote of thanks as proposed by Mr A. Lalramnghaka, Assistant Professor, Department of Mizo, Govt. T. Romana College, Aizawl.

Kaphleia(1910-2010), the ‘Father of Mizo Essay’ was born on January 10, 1910 at Thiak village, about 40 kms from Aizawl. After passing Matric(HSLC) from Shillong High School in 1935, he studied Intermediate of Arts(IA) in Scottish Church College, Calcutta. But, unfortunately he suffered Tuberculosis (TB) before completing IA and died on November 13, 1940 at Tachhip village.

His essays ‘Thlirtu (the onlooker)’ was considered the first essay ever written by the Mizo and even his short story(or novels/novelette) entitled ‘Chhingpuii’ was also considered the third among the Mizo. Besides he composed a numbers of songs, articles and essays in Mizo language and even translated English literary works into Mizo.

 

Inauguration of UGC Centres

inaugurationOn July 21, 2010, Dr H.L. Malsawma, Director, Higher & Technical Education Department, Government of Mizoram inaugurated the various UGC Centres established in the College. These Centres include the Computer Learning Centre and Mobile Repairing and Learning Centre under the Career Oriented Programme and several other centres under the 14 merged schemes including the Coaching Centre for Entry into Services, Remedial Coaching Class, Career and Counseling Cell.

Besides these Centres the Director also inaugurated the newly constructed office of the National Service Scheme(NSS), Govt. T.Romana College Unit.

 

The inauguration function, held at the Faculty Common Room was chaired by the Principal, Dr F. Lalhmingsanga and was graced by Dr H.L. Malsawma as Chief Guest. The Principal introduced the newly appointed Coordinators of the various Centres and Adviser of the Equal Opportunity Cell to the Chief Guest and gave technical reports on the newly established UGC Centres.

These Centres are funded by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi through the grants received under the ‘Career Oriented Programme’ and the ‘Merged Schemes.

Centre for Learning Mobile Phone Repairing

mobile-repairWith the emerging globalisation of education and economy, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has also reshaped its policies and programmes to make them more relevant and career-oriented with focus on quality and excellence. In such endeavor the UGC has selected Govt. T.Romana College to establish a new centre for learning mobile phone service and repairing from the academic session 2010-2011.

The Centre will offer a six months Certificate Course in Mobile Phone Service and Repairing. The Course Syllabus, as per guidelines of the UGC, is prepared keeping in view the subject specific academic needs and market requirements, with the help of the subject experts. The Course Syllabus has been submitted to the College Development Council (CDC) and is presently awaiting approval from the Academic Council of the Mizoram University. The institution has appointed Mr C.V.L. Tlanhlua, Lecturer, Department of Public Administration to be the Coordinator of the new Centre.

The Objective of the Centre is to introduce Mobile Phone related career through market-oriented, skill enhancing add-on courses that have utility for job, self-employment and empowerment of the students. At the end of three years, the students will be equipped with a Certificate/Diploma/Advanced diploma in Mobile Phone repairing as an add-on orientation course along with the conventional degree.

  •  How to repair and service minor & major handset problems.
  •  How to setup their own mobile phone repair service centre.
  •  How to survive in the cell phone repairing business.
  •  How to make money by repairing mobiles

 

Seminar on Mizo History

State Level Seminar on Mizo History

On July 16, 2009 Govt. T.Romana College organized a One-Day State Level Seminarhist_seminar on 'Society, Economy and Political History of the Mizo' at I&PR Auditorium, Aizawl, Mizoram in collaboration with Mizo History Association. The Seminar was fully funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi. The Department of History of the College took the initiative in organizing this seminar. The Seminar, inaugurated by Shri Lalsawta, Hon'ble Minister i/c Higher & Technical Education, Mizoram, was attended by historians, academicians, teachers, journalist and students coming from different parts of the State.

The Coordinator of the Seminar was Dr Benjamin Ralte, Lecturer, Department of History and Asst. Coordinator was Mr Malsawmliana, Lecturer, Department of History, Govt. T. Romana College.
