
The 72nd National Wildlife Week 2026 was observed on 7 October 2026 (Wednesday) at Govt. T. Romana College, with the programme jointly organised by the NSS, Govt. T. Romana College, and the General Headquarters of the Save Environment Association (SENVA), Aizawl.
Pu Lalthansanga, Hon’ble Minister of Environment & Forest, Climate Change, etc., graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, the Hon’ble Minister stated that Mizoram now has only 1.26% semi-forest cover and emphasised the urgent need to protect and preserve trees and bamboo. He stressed that every individual has a role to play in protecting and improving the environment and encouraged everyone to contribute in whatever way possible.
The Minister further highlighted that the programme marked only the beginning of continued efforts towards wildlife conservation. He expressed the view that collective efforts to protect trees and bamboo and restore forest cover would help create a safer and more secure habitat for wildlife.
The programme was chaired by Pu K. Biakthianghlima, President of SENVA. Dr. Jenifer Lalbiakdiki, Principal, Govt. T. Romana College, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Lalchhuanmawia, Programme Officer, NSS, delivered the vote of thanks.
The observance highlighted the importance of environmental conservation and the collective responsibility of the community towards protecting Mizoram’s forests and wildlife.
